Wellness Injury Rehabilitation

We take a multi-disciplinary approach to the prevention, evaluation, and treatment of injuries. Through sports therapy & massage, we can help reduce pain and encourage healing.

Here’s what to expect from the injury rehabilitation journey at Elements. Treatment plans are personal to you and injury dependent.

1. MEDICAL HISTORY

Your therapist on your first session will start with a detailed medical history and find out more about the injury or issue. During this you’ll be asked questions about your general health as well as more specific questions about location of pain and duration in which it occurs.

2. COMPLETE ASSESSMENT

After answering the initial questions, your therapist will do a complete assessment to figure out the specifics of the issue or injury. Sometimes this involves a hands on approach and your therapist will need to be able to see the area well. Basic movements may also be observed at this stage.

3. TREATMENT PLAN

The findings of the assessment will be presented to you and you can ask your therapist any questions you might have. Treatment comes in an array of forms, some of which are outlined below. It’s important to remember no treatments are compulsory, if you would prefer not to have a particular type of treatment you can always opt-out.

4. FOLLOW-UP & AFTERCARE

After the initial appointment, the follow up will entail a quick chat to determine how you have been doing since the previous appointment. We will then complete a condensed assessment to monitor your progress. The remainder of the session will be then focussed on the ongoing treatment.

5. OUTCOME / RESOLUTION

During your treatment plan, your therapist will outline the amount of sessions likely required and will continue evaluating this as the treatment continues. Once the plan is completed, you should be on the road to recovery and have a reduction in pain.

COMMON TREATMENTS

It’s important to note that treatment is not the same from person to person, outlined below are common treatments. Your therapist will decide which treatments will be the most effective for your issue. Treatment is not limited to the list below and alternatives are available.

VARYING MASSAGE TECHNIQUES

Soft tissue, deep tissue and sports massage techniques are often used within our treatment plans.

DRY NEEDLING

Very fine needles are placed into the tissue. It can cause a small twitch effect in the area. Similar to acupuncture needles.

TRIGGER POINT THERAPY

Direct pressure is applied to the source and held still, this temporarily cuts off circulation to the tissue and breaks the pain cycle.

POSTURAL CORRECTION /
EXERCISE PRESCRIPTIONS

This can be as simple as reminders to correct your posture on a day to day basis.

JOINT MOBILISATION

Joint mobilisation involves performing a back and forth oscillation of the joint in order to restore motion.

FAQS

WHAT DOES THE ASSESSMENT INVOLVE?

Depending on where the issue is your therapist may ask you to remove some clothing, it’s important that you are comfortable and that your therapist can see the area well. You will then be observed as you do some basic movements in standing, sitting, or lying. They may also move your limbs to check flexibility or may feel around to get a sense of what is happening in the tissue. Generally, the tests are pain-free but some may cause mild discomfort. Be sure to give feedback on how it is feeling. This will help them determine what tests to do and will help find the true cause of the symptoms.

Following your first appointment, your therapist will outline how many sessions they think you will need to have and will re-evaluate this as the treatment continues.
